A Greek city from the ancient times, that around 1900 was the most cosmopolitan center in the eastern Mediterranean sea, with a high level multi national society and a great neoclassical & European architecture. In 1922 the city was burned by the Turks and the Greeks were forcibly expelled after thousands of years. Today the city remains beautiful but has nothing to do with the past life and architecture. In this article we present a building donated to the Greek state from it's Greek owner. In 1955, after some newer barbarities against Greeks mostly in Constantinople, were a big community remained, the building was given back to Greece to be used as consulate. It was a movement of Turkey with intention to calm down the international reactions for it's barbarities. Today the beautiful quay is full of blocks of flats (demolitions after the fire) and the building is one of the few that remind the original Smyrna. It is under renovation by Greece, despite the crisis, as should for such a building.

Useful Information for English speaking Visitors (more pictures inside): Exposition for the neoclassical architect Theophil Hansen, 22/10/2014 - 18/01/2015, Vasilisis Sofias st. 9, Athens. Theophil Hansen, born in Denmark in 1813 was one of the first architects, that created the specific Greek neoclassical style inspired from the original ancient classical monuments of Athens. He started his career in Athens with the observatory of 1842 opposite to the Acropolis and he is the architect of the worldwide top neoclassical buildings of the National Library and the Academy. After his first steps in Athens, with the help of members of the Greek community of Vienna he moved there and he managed to build more important buildings like the Parliament. Ενημέρωση: Προς πώληση η μετά από δεκαετίες συντηρημένη έπαυλη Καζούλη. Σε ιδιώτη ή επιτέλους στον δήμο Κηφισιάς?
Είναι ένα από τα γνωστότερα και σημαντικότερα νεοκλασικά κτίρια της Ελλάδας. Βρίσκεται στη νότια είσοδο της πόλης της Κηφισιάς. Η ιστορία της είναι λίγο πολύ γνωστή σε όσους ασχολούνται και μελλοντικά θα κάνουμε και εδώ κάποιο αφιέρωμα. Παρέμεινε επί δεκαετίες να φθείρεται και να καταρρέει, τελικά τη δεκαετία του 2000 υπέστη μια αρκετά σωστή αποκατάσταση και στέγασε το Εθνικό Κέντρο Περιβάλλοντος και Αειφόρου Ανάπτυξης του ΥΠ.Ε.Κ.Α. Η χρήση αυτή σίγουρα θα βοηθούσε την προστασία του κτιρίου, όμως στην ουσία δεν έδωσε στο κτίριο τον ρόλο, που όλοι περίμεναν χρόνια, ένα κτίριο προσβάσιμο σε πολύ κόσμο, ένα μουσείο ή πολιτιστικό κέντρο. Σήμερα και ενώ έχουν περάσει ελάχιστα χρόνια από την αποκατάσταση, το φοβερό ελληνικό δημόσιο αποφάσισε να πουλήσει το μνημείο νεοκλασικής αρχιτεκτονικής σε κάποιον ιδιώτη μέσω του Ταμείου Αποκρατικοποιήσεων!
